ANN ARBOR, MI -- A new cigar and cocktail lounge is set to open in Ann Arbor, bringing tapas-style eats and a smoke lounge to the city.

Havana Cigar and Cocktail Lounge, 207 N. Main St., Ann Arbor, will host a grand opening on Saturday, Aug. 27. The cigar and cocktail lounge will offer a variety of cigar brands, including its own, as well as a variety of food.

“We are one of only two in the city that exists currently for cigar bars,” said Nick Habbert, a managing partner. “We’re the only one that serves food.”

Dishes include a sliced coffee-crusted tenderloin filet, fried burrata cheese, rum mango glazed salmon, and blistered shishito peppers. The lounge also inherited smoking equipment from the barbeque restaurant previously in the space, so the menu will also feature many smoked items.

Havana will also carry a range of cigars.

“It comes in all different shapes, sizes, flavors, everything from a spiced cigar to a sweet cigar, as well,” Habbert said. “So we’re excited to launch that with our grand opening, but we have all the big box names as well.”

The lounge will be split into a top and bottom floor, with the top floor reserved for customers who do not want to smoke.

While many of Havana’s cocktails are “island-inspired,” the lounge is particularly interested in popularizing sipping rums, Habbert said.

“Everyone can sip bourbon, and everyone can sip Scotch, but there’s so many amazing rums out there,” Habbert said. “Small-time producers that will really knock your socks off, and we really want to showcase that.”

Cocktail options include a smoked rum old fashioned, a coco-key lime pie mojito and an espresso martini.

Habbert, who grew up in the area, said he was attracted to Ann Arbor because of the city’s current restaurant offerings.

“I really think that Ann Arbor right now, especially post-coronavirus, is really primed to have an explosion of really new and cool food and beverage offerings, and I really want to be part of that,” Habbert said.

Havana will host a grand opening on Aug. 27 from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., featuring live music and an on-site cigar roller from 6 to 9 p.m. Customers will receive 20% off each box of cigars they buy, plus an additional 5% off if the cigars are Havana’s in-house brand.

Havana, 207 N. Main St., will be open 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Find the cigar and cocktail lounge online, on social media or by phone at 734-780-7344.
