I Can't Stop Using The Octobrush In Splatoon 3

Me And The Octobrush Go Well Together Like Peanut Butter And Jelly.

With Splatoon 3 launching this week, I struggled to decide what weapon to use as my tool of mass destruction. It took me a while, but I eventually settled on the Octobrush. Having spent some time with it, it's quickly ascended to become my weapon of choice for its abilities, stats, gear combinations, and all-round splattery fun to use.

The Octobrush is a roller-type weapon. While some people go out to only secure kills, I prefer to cover as much ground as possible while simultaneously splatting enemies. It's honestly the best way to play since splatting enemies also causes them to explode in your ink color. Splatoon veterans will know the sinking feeling of losing a match by 0.1%, and with my roller at the ready, I'm your guy to stop that from happening.

Unlike its inkbrush counterpart, the Octobrush has a wider ink trail allowing for more coverage than usual. Because of this, the Octobrush has slower movement speed when creating an ink path for you and your teammates. But it's a worthwhile trade-off and one I make gladly.

Not only do you have a bigger ink trail, but the roller weapon has an increased ink range than the Inkbrush. Even though the swing rate is a bit lower than the Inkbrush, it makes up for it in damage since it usually takes down an enemy within three hits. Before I used the Octobrush, the Inkbrush was my first love. Unlike the Inkbrush, the Octobrush makes you feel like an unstoppable force as you easily erase enemies. In terms of appearance, they both may look identical, but I can assure you that once you start firing, the Octobrush gives off a more menacing energy.

Along with the Octobrush, you have your sub and special abilities. These are all attached to the Octobrush, so there's no swapping them out for something different. Understanding the both of them is crucial to being effective with the Octobrush and utilizing the weapon to its full potential.

The sub is pretty basic as the Suction Bomb is paired with it - essentially your standard grenade. You aim, throw, and watch the pretty ink explosion cover the battlefield. The blast itself isn't really that big either. Instead of using the bomb to ink up the stage (which I don't recommend), it’s better to throw it along walls and other surfaces to catch enemies off-guard and damage them. Once they’re weak, finish them off with the brush. Combo the two together allowing almost zero time for your opponent to react. By the time they realize what’s going on, they’re already dripping in paint. Lethal.

The Zipcaster is one of the newest specials introduced in Splatoon 3, and it’s attached to the Octobrush. The synergy between these two have is incredible. The Zipcaster allows you to, well, zip onto walls and creates a small explosion on impact. You can also maneuver your way through the battlefield allowing you to get the element of surprise on some unexpected enemies. Not only that, but you still have access to your main weapon while doing this, allowing you to pull off some serious combos. Using the Octobrush while using the Zipcaster decreases how long it lasts, so you’ll have to act fast to take advantage. There are few feelings as exhilarating in Splatoon as flying around the map and getting not only double splats, but triple as well. There have been many times when I found myself executing these combos perfectly and securing the win for my team. That's what makes the Octobrush so amazing. It's easy to use and packs a punch.

The Octobrush is a weapon that shouldn't be slept on. I initially didn’t use it because of its movement speed and rate of fire. With the right gear attached, you won’t even notice the difference; Special Charge Up to replenish the Zipcaster, Swim Speed Up to help you ambush enemies from pools of goo, and Ink Saver to help you keep up the pressure.

While there are other weapons such as Stringers and Splatanas, they don’t give me the same inky satisfaction as the Octobrush. With Splatoon 3’s newest Loadout feature, I can change up what type of Octobrush player I want to be whenever I feel like it. I can go full damage, stealthy, or just focus on coverage. Just having that variety in playstyle only adds to the superiority that the Octobrush has over every other weapon.

When the next Splatfest pops up you're going to want to use the Octobrush for every match. It'll allow you to fully dominate the other teams with maximum efficiency giving your team the upper hand in a majority of fights. Through experience, I haven't seen a single weapon that can fully counter the Octobrush during battles, So who's going to stop you?

Once you hit Level 4 you too can enjoy the power of the Octobrush. Just know that once you pick it up, it may feel like almost no other weapon exists.
