The end of April is almost here, bringing with it longer days, plenty of sunshine and a very California holiday celebrating the humble plant that boasts as many nicknames as it does misconceptions.

The big, annual party celebrating 4/20 at Golden Gate Park’s Hippie Hill is back after two years of forced cancellations. Potential attendees should expect a big crowd descending into the park for the free event, so plan to arrive early for a good spot. This also marks the first year the event will be limited to people age 21 and older, as it’s the first year the event will include legal cannabis sales.

Additionally, the city of San Francisco has organized more than a week’s worth of events, demos, farm tours and more with the Evergreen San Francisco project. Check out evergreensanfrancisco.org for information about retail locations and other cannabis resources.

Celebrate responsibly! Here’s The Chronicle’s guide to events around the Bay Area where you can mark the occasion.
